Contest #1 – This question is always a part of these contests as most of us ‘concentrate’ on one team:
Are you a ‘homer’ or not? (a sports fan who is so blinded by their loyalty to their favorite team that they can’t be objective about the team’s prospects for the coming year):
a. Name your team
b. What will their season record be?
c. Where will they end up in their Division at the end of the season?
d. Will they make the 12 team playoffs?
e. If so, how far will they go in those playoffs?
f. What will be the reason for well or how poorly they do this year? Be as specific as possible.
Prize: A copy of Joe Posnanski’s The Baseball 100 or of his new book, Why We Love Baseball.
Contest #2 – True / False:
a. One of these two teams will NOT make it to the World Series, despite all the money they spent this off season: LA Bums or New York Yunkees.
b. Some one will hit more than 60 Home Runs this year. (2023 high was 54)
c. At least five batters will strike out 200 or more times this year. (Four did in 2023)
d. There will be no 20 game winning pitchers this year. (Only one did it in 2023)
e. Neither the Braves, Orioles, or Dodgers will (again) win 100 or more games in 2024.
Prize: Join me for a Nats’ game in DC, or I’ll try to join you, if possible, for any regular season game elsewhere. In either case, I’ll buy the tickets. You can buy the food and drinks.
Contest # 3 – Name the three teams in each league that will win their Division:
a. AL East (Orioles in 2023)
b. Al Central (Twins in 2023)
c. AL West (Astros in 2023)
d. NL East (Braves in 2023)
e NL Central (Brewers in 2023)
f. NL West (Dodgers in 2023)
Prize: A copy of Joe Posnanski’s The Baseball 100 or a copy of his new book, Why We Love Baseball.
Contest #4 – Also a recurring question:
a. Who will be the four teams making it to the League Championship series (ALCS & NLCS) in 2023?
b. What two teams will actually make it to the World Series?
c. How many games will the WS go?
d. Which team will win the WS?
e. What are the reasons that team will win?
Prize: One ticket to the 2024 All Star game or the 2024 World Series.
Contest #5 – Tie-Breaker: In the event that any of the above contests result in a tie, this question will determine the winner and runner up of that contest(s):
Make a specific, detailed, and prescient prediction about the 2024 MLB season. The winner of this contest will be chosen by the 2024 MillersTime contestants who will determine the winner.
Prize: Join me for a Nats’ game in DC, or I’ll try to join you, if possible, for any regular season game elsewhere. In either case, I’ll buy the tickets. You can buy the food and drinks.

Contest #1
A. New York Yankees
B. 80-82
C. 4th of 5.
D. A huge NO!
E. N/A
F. Boone continues to frustrate as Yankee Manager. Having little to no guts from the get-go & being controlled by the lack luster Cashman, the Yankees will fail due to a number of recurring ‘big player’ injuries (what’s new?) and continued bad player selection. Gerrit Cole (love him or hate him) cannot pitch every game. The others can’t pitch at all. I have no idea how this proposed new roster will compete even against average teams?
Contest #2
A. Easy. TRUE.
B. TRUE
C. TRUE (3 will be Yankees)
D. TRUE
E. FALSE
Contest #3
A. AL EAST (Red Sox)
B. AL CENTRAL (Twins)
C. AL WEST (Astro’s)
D. NL EAST (Phillies)
E. NL CENTRAL (Cardinals)
F. NL WEST (Dodgers)
Contest #4
A. LA Dodgers, Houston Astro’s, Red Sox and Phillies.
B. LA Dodgers v Houston Astro’s.
C. All 7.
D. LA Dodgers
E. Even with supposed gambling addict and all-round MLB wonder-boy Shohei Ohtani being suspended for part of the season due to his involvement in placing bets on whether Trump will be incarcerated by the end of the baseball season or not (looks a safe bet to me), the Dodgers have superior strength in depth and should not be opposed. Freddie Freeman for MVP perhaps?
Contest #5
Tie-Breaker.
I think the writing is already on the wall in the Bronx regarding the once great New York Yankees. Having not won a World Series since 2009, the angst being felt these-days by each everyday ball fan headed up on the 4 train is now at a palpable level. We’re sick of losing and wont stand for it anymore!
I was told back in the day when emigrating up from our perfect life in DC that ‘Losing is not an option in New York‘. Yeah right! This has turned out to be the biggest faux par since Hydroxychloroquine & bright lights were considered as cures. The Yankees are just an also-ran team and we’ve had enough.
So what are the reasons? What is the solution? Sadly here in the greatest city in the universe, is it just bad luck or continued bad judgment that all NY teams are as bad as each other all at the same time? The Jets suck, the Giants suck, the Mets have always sucked, NYCFC are beyond terrible, the Knicks are horrible, the Rangers consistently choke and our beloved Yankees are just darn awful. Losing to teams like the Marlins, White Sox and even the Rockies (who loses to the Rockies?) is embarrassing and not good for the game. Playing baseball-inept guys like Peraza, Rodon and the outstandingly atrocious Cabrera makes the Bombers look horribly average (Geez – Cabrera is perhaps the worst Yankee I have ever seen and Ive seen some trash over the year’s – stand-fast Kevin Youkilis). As a rule, we just don’t do average.
The answer is simple. It’s time to forget the past, the history, the World Series collection, how cool Jeter was, how hated A-Rod is etc and clear house. My sweeping prediction as an answer to this tie-breaker question is that from the top downwards, the fire sale will begin way before the end of the season. The lot has to go to stand us any chance of regeneration. No doubt Judge will be injured again for part of the season & in his absence the team will falter bigly. The kids – once to be looked upon with pride – find it hard to bat, field or even pitch these days leaving no hope for a successful season and play off run. Boone is a yes man through and through and is content on competing but not the serious business of winning. I speak for the majority in that he has to go first. Here’s to the future of a once great franchise……
